Here it comes - Ninja 650 Unboxing and Delivery

The wait which led to Unboxing...

Well it was afternoon of Saturday 21 Sept (14 days after the booking) and I received a call from the Sales Executive(SE) that the bike has left the factory and they would be receiving in a few days. My joy knew no bounds since during the booking I was given a tentative timeline of 1-1.5 months for delivery and here the bike has been dispatched in 15 days that means roughly another 10 days give or take and I am riding the bike. That's 25 days compared to 40 days at the time of booking !

Next call came on Monday 24 Sept that the bike will be reaching the dealership next day, 25th and I was invited for un-boxing of my dream. With no delay, I absolutely agreed to reach the showroom by 11:45 AM. SE was courteous enough to call me that the bike has arrived and I should come to meet her.

Now this came between me and my Ninja - 'Pitru Paksha 2018'. Dates were Monday 24th Sept - 8th Oct, even when the bike has arrived on 25th and considering RTO takes a week max, I still have to wait for another week to gets hands on the dream I have been living till now. This period is inauspicious as per the Hindu calendar, everyone suggested me this and even the  SE mentioned the same as they don't do many deliveries in this period. So I decided to wait patiently for another week, after all 1 week is nothing to my wait all these years.

I reached the showroom around 12:00 PM where the Manager and SE were waiting for me to unbox the vehicle. It was all packed in their yard along with another bike (Ninja 300, I guess) waiting for me to open her up and show her this world and her owner.  The way it was tied in the wooden box,  packaging was simply outstanding, it took us 20 mins roughly to get the bike on ground and completely unpack it. Showroom Manager insisted me to open the cover and take a look at the bike which I happily accepted. Took a few pics, short video on the unboxing experience (please comment if you would like to see the video, I will see how I can share it).

That was it, Bike unboxed and ready to be registered on my name. Thane showroom has a space on their second floor where they keep the delivery vehicles which is separate from the showroom. We went there with the bike and kept it neatly packed in the cover it came. I saw around 5 Ninja 1000 parked in there and for a moment I thought, should have I gone for 1000 instead of 650, oh no no no, its priced way higher, almost twice the amount to be precise and this needs a graduation from 600 to 1000 cc.

Before I parted with the bike I made it clear with the showroom people to keep it safe, not allow her to see the showroom and used a display bike, which the manager assured that these bikes have a good cost and we understand how much it means. I was very strong in bringing up this as the showroom would keep the bike for a good old 15 days before I could see her again.

Went back to the showroom for the payment related formalities, paid the balance amount and then it was time for accessories !. I had a frame slider and fork protectors as a part of the deal while booking the bike (the make was Venom, build seemed acceptable to me, I saw that on the display bikes). That much protection was sufficient for the bike to start with and I planned to add more accessories with the passing on time. In my last visit, I saw tank pads on one of the display models, they were rubberized and looked really well, instead of the plastic ones which are very common and seemed the only option online. The price quoted was 6K, on a very higher side, but fine, bike it self is a big investment, with an elephant you pay for elephant's diet. I also wanted a riding jacket, I had been checking online and there is a riding jacket from Biking Brotherhood which had caught my attention, this is made in India brand and at par with quality on many international ones. Showroom had a decent collection of jackets, I thought of checking them, there was a good DSG jacket costing at 7.5K , I immediately agreed as this was close to my budget of BBG jacket and DSG is a good known international brand. With all done, I left the showroom only to return on 11th Oct second half for delivery and my painful wait started...

The Delivery...
There were few followups with the dealership needed for them to stick to the delivery date of 11th Oct. There were issues with the RTO and we finally agreed on getting the bike home on a temporary number and take it to RTO next week.

11:00 AM was the time for me to uncover my Ninja, reached the showroom on time. There she was waiting all draped in green Kawasaki color ready to be unveiled by me. There was a short ceremony of delivery, along with handling over the keys and short demo of bike features. Service manager explained the service schedule in very detail and how to take great care of the bike. Showroom people were very professional and they explained every attribute with the bike very clearly. Overall it was a great and satisfactory experience at the Showroom. We clicked some pictures, took the necessary documents and left the showroom with the dream I had.. add not a dream anymore... its a Reality !!

The initial impressions of Ninja 650 was being a good handler and very nimble in city.  The advise given by the Showroom manager is to not to rev the bike beyond 6000 RPM and I planned to best stick to it. To my amazement, I can still cruise at speeds of 100KM/ Hr even within this limitation.  Engine felt very smooth on my short ride to home, however I felt that the bike is heating too much, checked coolant level and the radiator which was perfect. That made me quickly realize that this is a two pot 600 cc engine, which is destined to produce a lot of heat. The fairing was doing a good job in diverting the heat to the ground, glad I sticked to Ninja 650 and did not consider the naked version the Z650.

We reached a temple near our home, as a customary ceremony before bringing the bike home. Did some pooja, some sweets and then finally bike came home, parked safely and securely near our ivtec Honda and CVTi TVS.

Now the wait begins for the R.T.O process to complete and then a breakfast ride to Lonavala awaits !!
